
That's probably fine if you're researching geography, history or similar topics, but it's much more of an issue if you're browsing pages for music, TV, film, or anything else which might see regular updates on a daily basis.

it's impossible to directly go to an article with the typed title, instead it always makes a full text search in articles, which takes minutes, and then I need to find and click the one among results. Plus the client to browser them is inferior e.g. no navboxes) and in my opinion look much worse. Ever since Kiwix resumed updates last year after a long break, new versions only contained mobile versions even for desktops, which lack crucial content (e.g. Don't quote me on this but we plan to resume a monthly schedule for updates.

It still takes almost a week and a half to process We ended up killing two of our virtual machines and merging them in order to get extra processing power (the uncompressed Wikipedia would be more in the 400Gb range, IIRC) Even with all issues fixed, there still was the problem with the sheer size of the English Wikipedia - 6.4M articles make for close to 100M objects when you include templates, links, images and whatnot.

These issues affected all wikis with > 1M articles, so if you speak French, German or Polish know that an update is also on its way for you (if it is not there already). Since then we have been plagued with mediawiki-related issues Foundation-side, which where resolved one by one (thanks to them!). The latest version was from March 2021 (82 Gb, about 2-300k fewer articles). Alright, seems like people had kept their eyes peeled for it - we wanted to make a formal announcement when the newer zim had spread to all mirrors (it has not been posted yet on r/kiwix, you hoarders are animals) but yes, there is a brand new Wikipedia_all_maxi (meaning all articles, with images) available as of this morning.
